Thu 29th March
7:30pm - 9:00pm
St Thomas' Church
This humble service remembers the day Jesus celebrated his final Passover with His disciples (the Last Supper). At this meal Jesus washed the feet of His disciples and commanded they do the same for each other. As Christians we replicate this extraordinary display of humility by washing each other’s feet.
Toward the end of the service the altar and the church are stripped of all ceremonial decoration in an unhurried and orderly fashion. This is done in complete silence to dramatise and symbolise Christ, stripped of his power and glory, in the hands of his captors. There is no blessing and the church remains in semi-darkness while the congregation exits in silence.
A powerful and solemn evening which stays long in the mind and soul of those who attend.
